Eva Soliano

Eva Soliano is 25 years old and tells us about her work at Schothorst Feed Research.

What is your position?
I work as an assistant manager at the pig farm.

What did you study?
I studied Animal Husbandry at the Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Dronten. This study is mainly focused on dairy farming, but I did my graduation internship and thesis in pig farming.

Does your study fit in well with what you do now?
My studies are reasonably in line with what I do, because I was able to shape the last year myself by graduating in pig farming. Management and what is involved in running a farm is something that is also discussed a lot in the study, of course more towards dairy cattle, but the basics are the same.

Did you know Schothorst Feed Research before you came to work here? If so, how did you know about this?
I knew SFR through an SFR employee, who had recommended the company to me for an internship when I was in my second year. I remembered this and so I was able to do my graduation internship at SFR and then stuck around.

Why did you want to work at SFR?
I really enjoyed the research modules we received during my studies and I enjoy working with animals. At SFR, in addition to the daily activities, you have to alternate with various activities for tests, which makes the work a bit more challenging.

Is this your first job after graduating?
This is my first job after graduating. During my studies I had a part-time job at a propagation company.

Can you tell us what you do on a normal working day?
For me, a working day consists of ensuring that the planning is made and achieved, managing colleagues and carrying out all common activities at the company. I mainly work with the pregnant sows, insemination and the farrowing pen.

What do you like about working at SFR?
I like the variety in the work due to the various tests. Also the nice atmosphere with colleagues.

How do you describe the working atmosphere at SFR?
The atmosphere is pleasant, everyone does their best to achieve the best possible result and is willing to help others and learn things.

Do you recommend working at SFR? And why?
Due to the various functions, there is something for everyone at SFR. I personally recommend working for SFR, it is an organization where you can and should continue to develop yourself.

What are your ambitions within SFR?
Developing myself in my position, ensuring that the work in the stable is optimized and continuing to learn about pig farming.
